THE Dock Museum in Barrow is to close to the public temporarily from Thursday, November 5 as a second lockdown begins nationwide to help curb the Covid-19 pandemic.

The popular attraction is normally open free to visitors from Wednesday to Sunday every week.

It will reopen as soon as the lockdown period is brought to an end by the government.

However, the museum’s popular outdoor playground will remain open during this period.

Councillor Shaun Blezard, Barrow Borough Council’s lead member for Arts, Culture and Leisure, said: “We know The Dock Museum is incredibly popular with residents and visitors.

“It offers something for everyone and many people return regularly to make sure they catch the latest exhibitions and shows.

“The doors will be closing on Thursday to comply with the rules of the national lockdown. We look forward to them reopening again as soon as it is safe and possible to do so.”

The Dock Museum celebrates the area’s varied heritage from prehistoric axes, Viking treasure, sleepy farming life and shipbuilding heritage.

Its latest exhibition Discover the Museum! is an opportunity to explore hidden objects and stories from the archives which uncover the fascinating lives and loves of local people in generations gone by.

The exhibition began on October 28 and will resume once the museum reopens until January 20. Highlights from this fascinating exhibition will be regularly posted online on the Dock Museum’s social media channels.
