A group of Cumbrian artists is presenting its 57th annual exhibition at Carlisle Cathedral.
The exhibition is organised by Carlisle and Cumbria Artists and takes place in Fratry Hall. It will feature over 280 original paintings and cards by 49 local artists.
Art on show will include everything from local landscapes to still life and abstract work.
The group’s first exhibition took place at the old Town Hall in 1968. It was organised by the late Molly Mawson to raise money to save the 15th-century Tithe Barn.
Following its success, the Dean asked Mrs Mawson if future exhibitions could raise money for the Cathedral, and it has since become an annual event raising funds for the site.
Carlisle and Cumbria Artists chairman Terry Moore said: “Artists explore much of Cumbria and the Lake District in their artwork, which appeals to visitors who only visit the city.
“This art venue is well supported by the artists who see it as one of the major exhibitions in the calendar year, with excellent gallery space. Donations to the Cathedral are central to the artists’ appreciation of these amazing set of buildings.”
The exhibition will run from Saturday July 18 to Sunday August 2, open from 10am to 4pm daily.
Admission is free, with donations welcomed.
Entrance to the Fratry Hall is accessed via the Cathedral Cafe, and all proceeds will be donated to Carlisle Cathedral.
