People getting a COVID-19 vaccination at a new centre opening in Kendal this week will be able to park for free in the Westmorland Shopping Centre car park.
South Lakeland District Council has agreed to make free parking available to people attending the NHS facility in the shopping centre.
Anyone wanting to use the multi-storey car park in the shopping centre while getting their vaccination will be able to leave their vehicle in the car park and get a ticket for free parking from NHS staff when they arrive at the centre.
This ticket can be presented at the barrier on exiting the car park.
The authority has also agreed to provide free parking permits for the NHS staff working in the vaccination centre and the council has extended the opening hours of the car park so it is available to people using the vaccination centre up to 8pm.
Councillor Philip Dixon, SLDC’s portfolio holder for customer and commercial services said: “We want to help make sure as many people as possible are able to easily attend the new vaccination centre when it opens in Kendal.
“This is something we can do to support people attending the new vaccination centre in the shopping centre and support the NHS in this critical work.’’
The NHS is opening two vaccination centres in South Lakeland this week, the one at the Westmorland Shopping Centre and another at the GSK sports centre in Ulverston.
