A man has admitted wounding a male with a knife in Carlisle, and an earlier assault on his sister which occurred on a Lake District camp site.
When he appeared at the city’s crown court this morning, 44-year-old Llewellyn Newth admitted three offences.
These arise out of two separate incidents last year.
Newth pleaded guilty to unlawfully and maliciously wounding a 20-year-old man with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and also the illegal possession of a knife at Currock Road.
These crimes occurred at around 10.20pm on October 28 close to a vehicle garage, prompting a probe by detectives and appeals to the public for information.
A police spokesman confirmed at the time that the male victim “suffered a serious slash wound to his arm”, and was taken to Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary for treatment.
During today’s court hearing, Newth, latterly of Currock Road, Carlisle, further admitted assaulting his sister, causing her actual bodily harm, on August 22 last year.
This charge arises out of an incident at a camp site in the Great Langdale area.
Recorder Philip Grundy was told Newth’s legal team had commissioned a psychiatric report which indicated the diagnosis of a personality disorder.
Recorder Grundy requested the preparation of a further psychiatric report, and a report from the probation service focussing on the defendant’s mental health.
Newth, appearing over a prison video link, spoke to confirm his identity and that he could hear the proceedings clearly.
He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on a future date.
Recorder Grundy said: “I struggle to see how there is likely to be anything other than a custodial sentence in this case.”
