Electric vehicles can now be charged at a new location in Carlisle.
Linton Tweeds, on Shaddongate, is one of the first businesses in the city to offer EV chargepoints,
It has worked with community benefit society Charge My Street. The two chargepoints are located in their car park at the rear of their Bobbin Coffee Shop in Shaddongate.
Keith Walker, managing director of Linton Tweeds, who is already a converted electric vehicle driver himself said: “Linton Tweeds are really pleased to be amongst the first businesses in Carlisle to offer an EV charging facility.
“The chargepoints are available for use by our customers, visitors to Carlisle and local residents. We are all ready for the EV revolution.”
One of the project’s partners is Carlisle City Council and up to 20 more chargepoints are planned for the city centre and surrounding towns and villages over the next few months.
The chargepoints are funded through a community share offer and funding from Innovate UK, the UK’s innovation agency so the chargepoints don’t cost the host site any money at all.
Charge My Street are currently appealing for more businesses and other organisations to approach them with a potentially suitable chargepoint site.
The chargepoint offer is open to anyone who owns land that could be used to host one.
Potential sites must have the space for two EVs to charge, they must have open broadband or good data coverage and should be open to access by the public.
Anyone wishing to get in contact or suggest their site as a potential chargepoint host site can do so via the website at www.chargemystreet.co.uk
