Two teens  arrested following a serious assault in Barrow have been released on bail as Cumbria police detectives continue their enquiries.

Police were called by the North West Ambulance Service yesterday at around 2. 50pm to Jarrow Street.

A 13-year-old boy was taken to Alder Hey Children’s hospital, with suspected stab wounds.

His injuries are described as not life-threatening and he is in a stable condition.

A 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy have since been released on bail.

T/Chief Superintendent Rob O’Connor said “I would like to reassure the public that incidents such as this are very rare in Cumbria.

“This is an isolated incident and initial enquiries has revealed that the parties involved are believed to have known one another.

“The two young people arrested have been bailed with strict conditions and appropriate referrals made to relevant support agencies, and we will now liaise with the Crown Prosecution Service about criminal charges.

“A team of detectives are continuing with their enquiries and we would welcome the public’s support by reporting information which could assist.”

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses that have not yet spoken to police and were on Jarrow Street, Barrow between 2.45pm and 3pm on Saturday 20th February.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is urged to call 101 quoting incident number 116 of 20th February 2021.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
