The Keswick Reminder is celebrating its 125th birthday today by giving away a free 16-page souvenir supplement to its readers.
The Keswick Reminder, our sister paper, was first published on February 26, 1896 and it has been covering all the big – and not so big – news stories across the North Lakes ever since.
Two world wars and countless royal visits, along with Keswick’s infamous Mod scooter riot, are featured in the 125th anniversary supplement, which is packed with all the main local news, sport and photos spanning three centuries.
It has been compiled by Jane Grave, the Keswick Reminder’s editor from 2006-2020, whose great-grandfather founded the weekly newspaper.
“It has been a real privilege – and great fun – to carry out the research and look back over some amazing times. There is something in the supplement for everyone, including a few surprises,” said Jane, who retired last year when the newspaper was taken over by Barrnon Media, our parent company.
The free supplement is inside today’s issue of the Keswick Reminder, which goes on sale this morning.
It includes a tribute from Lord Bragg of Wigton, who says the newspaper is “unique and addictive!”
