One flood warning and one alert remain in force in Cumbria after several days of heavy rain.
A warning – which means flooding is expected and immediate action is required – is in place for Keswick Campsite.
It states: “Levels on Derwentwater remain high at the Lodore Gauge, albeit receding slowly, as a result of the heavy rainfall over the last week. As a result, we do not expect levels to drop below the flood warning level until later today.
“Flooding is expected to continue to affect low-lying areas bordering the shores of Derwentwater and to the frontage of the Keswick Camping and Caravanning Club Site. We expect some showers this morning before a more organised band of rain sweeps across this afternoon, locally heavy over the high ground.
“The rain is expected to clear this evening and thereafter it will become increasingly dry and settled throughout the week. We continue to closely monitor the situation. Please avoid using low-lying footpaths around the edge of Derwentwater and near rivers.”
A flood alert – which means flooding is possible and be prepared – remains in force for the upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwentwater. This states: “Whilst river levels have receded slowly, the level of Derwentwater remains high.
“Consequently, low-lying land adjacent to Derwentwater shoreline areas remain affected by flooding. Levels on Derwentwater are expected to remain high over the next few days as a result of the rainfall earlier this week.
“We expect some showers this morning before a more organised band of rain sweeps quickly across this afternoon, locally heavy over the high ground. The rain is expected to clear this evening and thereafter it will become increasingly dry and settled throughout the week.
“We continue to closely monitor the situation. Please avoid using low-lying footpaths around the edge of Derwentwater and the River Derwent.”
