A Carlisle man admitted four charges relating to viewing or possessing indecent images of a child.
Ben Smith appeared before Carlisle’s magistrates’ court today charged with three offences of ‘making’ indecent photographs/pseudo-photographs of a child and one charge of possession of a prohibited image of a child.
The charge ‘making’ can refer to accessing, downloading or viewing an image.
Smith, of Green Lane in the Belle Vue area of Carlisle, committed the three ‘making’ offences between November 2 and November 25, 2018.
These related to 102 category A images, the most serious category.
Between the same dates, he admitted he ‘made’ 55 indecent category B images. The third charge related to 175 category C images.
The fourth offence related to possessing a prohibited pornographic image of a child.
He admitted all four offences.
Magistrates sent Smith to Carlisle Crown Court to be sentenced on June 1. His lawyer Paul Tweddle requested a pre-sentence report be prepared by the probation service.
Smith was informed he must report to Durranhill police station to sign the sexual offences register and he was granted unconditional bail until the crown court hearing.
