A new project to bring together communities across Cumbria begins later this month.

Discovered Stories, Shared Communities is a collaboration between Signal Film and Media and Cumbria Development Education Centre.

People from all walks of life and backgrounds are invited to apply to the project, which aims to bring together ‘new and old’ Cumbrians from ages 10 to adult.

Discovered Stories, Shared Communities hopes to bring groups of people together to celebrate the diverse stories, cultures, languages and ways of looking and being “Cumbrian” in a welcoming and celebratory way through creative activities.

Five sessions will be hosted safely at Cooke’s Studios in Barrow and a further five workshops for participants in and around Workington will be delivered online via Zoom.

There are 12 available spaces on each of the free courses with the aim of creating work which will be hosted as part of a permanent online exhibition on CDEC’s website.

Participants will work together in pairs or small groups to workshop ways to uncover stories and reactions to the county as a home and create a stop-motion animation, a spoken word-type of activity such as a song or poem that can be translated into another language or through photography and digital artwork.

The workshops will all be family-friendly so that everyone’s voice contributes to the generation of each piece with the aim of being a contribution to a permanent online exhibition.

To apply, visit tinyurl.com/6x2u6hjj  or call project manager Kezz Turner on 07933 001031.

Deadline for Barrow applications is May 10 and for the Workington workshops on  June 14.

Successful participants will be contacted by telephone and email the following day.
