People are urged to check the tide times before venturing out along the coast.
St Bees RNLI and Whitehaven and Millom Coastguard teams were called out yesterday after reports that seven people had been cut off by the rising tide at Ravenglass.
RNLI volunteers were training in Whitehaven harbour when they received the call from Belfast Coastguard at around 1.35pm.
As the volunteers approached the estuary, they were stood down as the casualties were no longer in need of assistance.
St Bees RNLI operations manager, Dick Beddows, said: “In this lovely weather there is nothing better than a walk by the sea but please check the tide times before you set out
as situations like this don’t always have a good outcome.”
