Five people in South Cumbria have won an iPad after signing up to their local councils new online account.
South Lakeland District Council’s My Account allows residents to access services including requesting a new recycling box and applying for COVID business support grants.
Nearly 7,000 residents have signed up for My Account, and everyone who did so before May 17 was automatically entered into a draw to win one of five 10-inch screen 32GB iPads.
The winners were:
- Peter Scott, Ambleside
- Sarah Redmayne, Bowness-on-Windermere
- June West, Grange-over-Sands
- Phil Ridley, Kendal
- Natalie Hewes, Troutbeck.
Natalie said she was looking forward to using her new iPad with her fiancé Owen. “It will come in handy for when we are travelling around with our six-month-old baby, Orla,” she said.
“As a busy mum it’s really important for me to be able to quickly and easily access My Account for SLDC. I’ve found it’s been a huge help when needing to report a problem, order more waste collection bins or just to keep myself updated with what’s going on in my area and would recommend anyone local to join up.”

Peter said: “I have found My Account not only useful for all the information it supplies but also for contacting SLDC. My recent query about the street lights in Millans Park was responded to immediately and much appreciated.”
A council spokesman said: “My Account is designed to make life easier for customers by offering better access to council services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“New features are being added all the time, and My Account can be used to check details about your council tax and your local area, including planning applications, bin and recycling collection dates, and how to contact your ward councillor.”
Signing up for a My Account only takes a few minutes and residents simply need an email address. Sign up at: www.southlakeland.gov.uk/myaccount
