The doors of a West Cumbrian pub will open today for the first time in two-and-a-half years.
The grand opening of the Lowther Arms in Mawbray will take place at 10am.
The pub was saved by the local community, who formed a committee to turn it into a co-operative.
Almost 300 people bought shares and the group bought the venue on March 31.
It is believed to be the first coastal community pub in the country.
It will serve food and a menu has been created for the first few weeks. The group said it planned to offer a full lunchtime and evening menu as soon as it could.
It added: “The aim is to keep things simple, support local breweries and businesses, and provide a range of good, honest, traditional, pub food that will satisfy most appetites and tastes.”
Chris Atkinson, project chairman, said: “Considering the Lowther Arms Community Project only purchased the pub on March 31, we’ve achieved a lot in 10 weeks.
“There is still refurbishment work to complete so we hope that everyone will be patient with us and enjoy what we’ve achieved so far.”
For those who want to be part of the Lowther Arms Community, shares are still available at www.thelowtherarms.co.uk
