Schools in England will find out later today how the Government plans to relax rules for them.
Currently, if a single child has a positive COVID-19 test, pupils in their bubble are also sent home.
It has been reported that last week the system saw more than 375,000 children sent home in England.
It is understood that the Government will move towards testing rather than isolation to control the disease.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has confirmed that the laws surrounding wearing facemasks in public and social distancing are set to be scrapped from July 19.
However, that date will be confirmed on July 12 after the latest data is reviewed.
He also said nightclubs would be allowed to reopen for the first time since the pandemic began and the guidance for people to work from home would be removed.
Legal limits on the number of people who can attend events will also end and the rule of six inside private homes will be scrapped.
Mr Johnson said the vaccine rollout had weakened the link between cases and deaths.
He also said a test, trace and isolate system proportionate to the pandemic would continue to be used.
People will still have to self-isolate if told to do so.
He said coronavirus status certificates would not be needed for entry to venues or events, but he said businesses might choose to employ checks of an individual’s NHS app to see their status.
An update about travel is due to be released this week.
