West Cumbrian star Dan Bewley has secured automatic qualification for the 2022 Speedway Euro Championship after holding his nerve in a run-off in Rybnik.
The Maryport rider Bewley, who had finished third in two of the previous three rounds, saw his top-five place come under threat from Polish rider Bartosz Smektala in Saturday’s series finale.
But after the two finished level overall on 37 points, it was Bewley who prevailed when the two met in a head-to-head decider, and his place in next year’s competition is now assured.
Tony Jackson, his former manager with the Workington Comets has always believed he has the potential to go on and race successfully in the Grand Prix series.
“Some serious injuries after a crash at Workington obviously held his progress but he has bounced back superbly and it’s really is good to see him taking his career forward,” he said.
Outgoing champion Robert Lambert finished seventh and now prepares for the start of the Grand Prix series – whilst former Eastbourne and Leicester racer Mikkel Michelsen won the SEC, in the process becoming the first confirmed starter for the 2022 GP series.
