A coastguard team was called out three times in the space of an hour.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team was first tasked at 11.45pm last night to Maryport Harbour, along with Cumbria police and Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team, after concerns were raised about someone’s welfare.
This was later believed to be a hoax call.
At 12.07am both teams were diverted to Whitehaven Marina after an emergency radio beacon sent out a distress call which was showing within the marina and registered to a commercial vessel.
This incident was put down to a fault with the beacon.
At 12.25am coastguard teams were called to a disturbance about 30 metres away.
It was identified that a boat owner had fallen overboard into the water from their moored boat. Unable to get out of the water themselves and not wearing a lifejacket at the time, officers who were already wearing lifejackets and associated PPE swiftly located where they were and hauled them out of the water.
The casualty was assessed for shock and any injuries before changing into some dry clothing.
