Police and other emergency services were called to Parton, near Whitehaven after fears of flooding and landslips.
Emergency services were in the village from around 11pm and around six homes, near St Bridget’s School, were evacuated and roads closed.
A police spokesman said: “The agencies have attended following concerns about the impact of the weather on the surrounding landscape and the potential impact on homes.”
People are asked to avoid the area while the agencies work to help keep people safe, the spokesman added.
