West Cumberland Federation members were rewarded for their decision to make a swift return to Garstang.
It was impossible to liberate on Saturday because of weather conditions, and although they got a race from Flookburgh, the young birds needed to get Garstang under their wings before moving onto Charnock Richard this weekend.
The Derwent Valley Federation have tackled the dilemma differently. They didn’t get a race on Saturday and will try again from Garstang on Saturday, and then hope to go from Charnock Richard on the following Wednesday.
The two Federations are due to join up as the West Cumbria Amalgamation for two races from Appleton on August 14 and 21 and then race the rest of the young bird programme together.
The race from Garstang on Tuesday morning proved to be an excellent one as the birds were back home in just over 65 minutes.
Flying around 52 miles to their own lofts the leaders covered the trip at 48 miles an hour with excellent returns for the 24 members who sent.
