Windermere Ferry is currently out of service.
A statement from Cumbria County Council said cable repairs were scheduled for this week and it will release further information about the service soon, although it expected it would be operational again by the end of the week.
A minibus is at the Far Sawrey side of the lake until 4pm today to collect any passengers who planned to use the ferry for their return journey.
It added: “We apologise for any inconvenience and will ensure the ferry can resume service as soon as possible.”
