A free holiday activity project in Kirkby Stephen is gearing up for its final two weeks of fun.

The At The Helm programme has already worked with 15 artists and welcomed over 190 people to performances and workshops this summer, and organisers are determined to go out with a bang with a further five spectacular shows.

These include a performance of Grow by Kapow Dance Circus Theatre, the musical Bicycle Boy, and an interactive workshop for early years children based on Aesop’s Fables.

Passing Through is a brand new show created over three days by youngsters aged 11 to 18 in Kirkby Stephen.

Delving into the colourful history of the upper Eden Valley the group will explore myths, legends and stories from the town and the surrounding villages to make a magical show to be performed in and around the parish church.

Karen West, the project’s composer and one of the lead practitioners, said: “We can’t wait to start work with the group next week, and are looking forward to creating something really special for our audience.”

At The Helm, which has been running since July and ends on August 30, is tun by TEAM, with support from Kirkby Stephen Community Arts and Kirkby Stephen Community Support.

All tickets to events are free to access and can be booked at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/kirkby-stephen-community-support-association or by calling 017683 71885.

There are also free meal options available at each event. To find out more email [email protected]
