Kendal’s warm-up game against Moortown was abandoned after 55 minutes because of an injury to one of the visiting players.
A crunching tackle in midfield saw the ball go loose but after Steven Nelson put a kick down field, the referee immediately stopped play for what appeared to be a serious knee injury to the Moortown player.
Play was stopped for about 10 minutes and a stretcher was brought out, but the referee signalled an early end to the game.
It had been an impressive performance up to then with Kendal leading 29-14 when the referee called a halt.
They had gone ahead after six minutes when the forwards drove to the line and Matt Houghton touched down with Glen Weightman adding the conversion.
Kendal added a second try after 12 minutes from a scrum, with Greg Wrathall, again playing at number eight, picking up to go over.
Kendal continued to dominate with Moortown seldom leaving their half and Glen Chesher added a third try from short range after half an hour.
Kendal’s fourth try came just before half time after Weightman made a break, to release Ben Dixon who was stopped near the line. Mark Carruthers was in support to score and Chris Park added the conversion, for a 24-0 interval lead.
Kendal started the second half well but it was Moortown who opened the scoring after three minutes from a good passing move down the left wing, helped by some missed tackles, leading to a converted try.
Replacement Kris Bratton looked as if he had added a fifth try for Kendal as he powered down the right wing, but as he crossed the line, a Moortown player managed to knock the ball out of his hands.
Instead it was Moortown who scored next, with a second try from long range, this time down the right and again converted to bring the score back to 24-14.
Just three minutes later the gap widened again. Nelson made a break through the centre, the ball was moved to Ben Dixon, and Nick Carlton squeezed over for an unconverted try.
Shortly afterwards came the injury which resulted in the game being cut short.
