Cumbria Classic 2021

Organisers have hailed Wigton Motor Club’s Cumbria Classic Weekend a huge success.

The event, at Dalemain, saw over 800 cars on the field in warm and dry weather, which brought out the crowds.

There were cars from over 100 years of motoring plus motorbikes and vans.

The autotests proved popular as did the trade and charity stands. The event supports Hospice at Home, Blood Bikes and Eden Animal Rescue.

This year’s the featured marques were MG with three classes and Toyota and AC Cobra.

The top Cobra was the very first AC Cobra registered in the UK and is owned by famous stunt driver Russ Swift.

The best pre-1955 MG was the MG TC of D Wallace, the post-55 MG class was won by S Wallace and the more modern MG class saw P Jackson’s MG RV8 as the winner.

The best club display was judged to be that of the RS Owners Club.

At 3pm, the class winners plus second and thirds were brought into the arena to receive their awards. They then voted for their choice of Car of the Show which was the VW Karmann Ghia of C Carruthers.

Saturday had seen the Rose and Thistle Challenge run which headed from Carlisle into the Borders and back down through the Pennines to finish near Penrith.

The tour had a full entry of 80 cars.
