It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it…
That’s the advice of Cumbria-based voice actor Drew Campbell, who has won a top industry award for his work.
Drew was nominated in the Toys/Physical Games best overall performance category at this year’s One Voice Awards, which recognises the very best voiceover talent in the business.
In a competitive field, Drew’s narration for a fantasy card game trailer called Arakahn Wars was adjudged to be the best and saw him win the prestigious award.
“With so much talent in the room, I was proud to be included with such a prestigious group of people,” said Drew.
“When we arrived at my category, I was expecting to do another standing ovation, so when my name was mentioned I couldn’t believe my ears. I hadn’t written a speech, so I blurted out a thank you to my long-suffering wife, as I’m always in the studio!”
Drew, from Carlisle, has been in the voiceover business for nearly a decade and his soft northern accent has featured on TV and radio commercials, audiobooks and animations, as well as a number of award-winning video games.
His blue-chip clients have included L’Oréal, KIA, Dolby, TNT, Carling and John West.
“When I started my journey in voiceovers, winning awards was so far from my reach, I could only dream and I did dream a lot about being an inspiration to others and to go on to win awards,” Drew said.
“As a Carlisle lad, this is an achievement I’m proud of. I am proof that if you want something that much and you work hard and always have that goal in your mind, you will get there. Now I’m looking forward to the next chapter with the end goal in mind.”
