Kelvin Mellor, a virtual ever-present in Morecambe’s promotion-winning season from League Two has joined Carlisle United.
The 30-year-old defender agreed a one-year deal after making the dash to Brunton Park to complete the deadline day signing.
Crewe-born Mellor started his career in non-league with Nantwich Town before signing for Crewe Alexandra in 2008.
During his time at Crewe, he spent loan spells in non-league with Nantwich, Newcastle Town, Stafford Rangers and Leek Town. He even spent time on loan in Iceland with IBV.
But he went on to play 76 games for Crewe in six years before joining Plymouth Argyle.
Two-year spells at Plymouth (78 games), Blackpool (73) and Bradford City (45) have followed before joining Morecambe in 2020.
Chris Beech the Carlisle head coach said: “I like the way he’s itching to get going and be part of our season going forward. He even caught the first available train to come here and get it all signed.
“I have no doubt that he will improve the group at the club and that’s the important bit.”
