Carlisle City played their final pre-season game last night at Whitehaven and a good workout for both sides finished 2-2.
Kendal Town played local neighbours Kendal County and won 2-1 while Holker Old Boys were also in friendly action, beating Ulverston Rangers 3-1.
Greg McCarrager and a young trialist scored the Kendal goals while Brandon Collins (2) and Jamie Hodgson (penalty) were on the mark for Holker.
It was particularly rewarding for Carlisle City manager Dan Kirkup to have Rob McCartney back in the side to score both goals.
A prolific scorer in the past he has experienced a nightmare spell out of the game with injury and showed that he still has what’s needed to put the chances away.
It was equally pleasing for Whitehaven manager Brian Dawson that one of his new recruits Luke Mason from Keswick scored the equaliser and picked up the man of the match award.
All the goals came in the first-half with Kian Goulding giving Whitehaven the lead with a header before McCartney struck twice for City. Then Mason went through to level before the break.
City will now have three training sessions before the Northern League season starts a week on Saturday.
