Local hill climb specialist Martin Mikkelsen-Barron has won the VCC’s Whinlatter Hill Climb, their final club time trial of the year.

Mikkelsen-Barron of Borrowdale tackled the steep 1.75-mile course above Braithwaite in a time of 7 minutes and 23 seconds at an average speed of 14.22mph.

He was 43 seconds clear of David Gleave in second place with Luke Johnston third in a time of 8:28.

Tuesday’s hill climb was Velo Club Cumbria’s final club time trial of the year. An Open event will be run on the same course on October 2.
