Emergency services were called after reports of a person in Workington’s River Derwent in the early hours.
It was reported there was a person in the water by Navvies Bridge.
Workington RNLI’s volunteer crew launched their inshore lifeboat John F Mortimer after they were called by Belfast Coastguard just after midnight to help with the search.
Also in attendance were Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team, Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team, Cumbria police, Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service and the North West Ambulance Service.
The RNLI had begun to search the area when news came in that the person was located safe and well.
