The new season for Workington and District Sunday League has started, but with a few teething problems.
Two of the pitches used by League member clubs are not available because they need repairing.
League secretary Ron Caffrey said: “We hope to get them back before the end of September, and until then some teams are doubling up with other pitches in the area.
“A number of games were off – one because of COVID-19; one because they can’t kick off early on a Sunday so are playing on Tuesday night with a 6.15pm kick off while a team had requested a free Sunday.”
There were plenty of goals in the three Premier Division games which went ahead.
Champions Northside led the goal rush with an 8-1 home win over Salterbeck with strikes from Tommy Whitehead (4), Jamie Bramley (3) and Darren Little. Anthony Hilland was on the mark for Salterbeck.
There were seven goals at Wakefield Road where hosts Deer Orchard won by the odd one against Blue Bell.
Lewis Horsley, Brian Straughton, Ben Wright and Luke Graham scored for the Orchard while Adam Chambers, Tom Powell and Ben Powell kept Blue Bell in the hunt.
Not as many goals, but almost as close at Aspatria where Sun Inn beat Seaton Rangers 2-0 with goals from Ryan Studholme and Andrew Trestianu.
Dearham v Glasson Gardeners was one of the games that was postponed.
Only one game was played in Division One and it saw JJ’s scorea4-2 win at Flimby Social.
