Cumberland Cup first round draw results

Cleator Moor Celtic versus Penrith is the stand-out tie in the first round draw for the Cumberland Cup.

The Inter-League clash – bringing together the North West Counties and the Northern League – has to be played by October 9 as the teams agree a date.

Holders Carlisle United have been drawn at home to Langwathby United while there’s a West Cumbrian derby in prospect with Workington Reds hosting Whitehaven Amateurs.

Carlisle City, who travel to Alston, have announced the signing of Jay Kelly who was a member of the Workington Reds squad under previous manager Danny Grainger.

He gained Northern Premier League experience with the Reds and played very well at right back as Grainger used him and Matty Clarke in that role.

The full first round draw is: Carleton Banks v Kirkoswald ; Cleator Moor Celtic v Penrith; Gosforth v Whitehaven Miners Social; Braithwaite v Pirelli; Cockermouth v AFC Carlisle; Wetheriggs United v Silloth; Workington AFC v Whitehaven AFC; Northbank v Unisun Athletic; Greystoke v Aspatria; Carlisle United v Langwathby United; Mirehouse AFC v Windscale; Alston Moor v Carlisle City; Workington Athletic v Wigton Harriers.

Eden United, Keswick and Maryport Athletic have received byes.

The County Sunday Cup competition involved 49 clubs, split east and west across the county and the first round draw resulted as follows:-

EAST: Inter Pirelli v Longtown FC; Northbank 1970 v Dalston Junior Black Reds; Newlaithes FC v Scotby; Jovial Sailor v Thompsons FC; Wheatsheaf v Dalston; Qzone FC v Dalston Junior Black Reds 2000; Carlisle Spartans v Brampton; AFC Carlisle v Carlisle Red Rose; Denton Holme FC v Currock; Harraby Inn v The Apple Tree FC; Unisun Athletic Sunday v Truth FC.

First round byes have gone to: AFC Gretna, Club Reunited FC, Crusaders, Lloyds No.1 Reunited, The Phoenix.

WEST: Deer Orchard v Northside; Flimby Social FC v Maryport Athletic; Mirehouse AFC v The Junction Workington; Thornhill v Seaton Rangers; Senhouse Street Club United FC v St Bees FC; Lowca Pirates v Moresby Rangers.

First round byes have gone to: Blue Bell FC, Dearham Commercial, FC Cosmos, Glasson Gardeners FC, Highfield Regulators, JJ’s FC, Salterbeck, Sun Inn, Sun Inn Athletic, The Royal Oak FC.

Ties to be played on Sunday October 10. Kick-off will be 10.30am or 1.30pm as per the home club’s usual time.
