Music lovers are promised a night to remember at St Cuthbert’s Church in Bewcastle next month – plus the chance of a glass of champagne with the assistant bishop of Carlisle.
Classical trumpeter Chris Hart and leading pianist Michael Bawtree will be performing at the historic north Cumbrian venue, in a special recital on the evening of October 17.
Chris joined the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in 2016 as its Principal Trumpeter, and has played with some of the other leading UK orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
Last month he featured in a broadcast performance at this year’s Edinburgh International Festival.
Michael has a wide-ranging international career, mostly as a conductor and organist. He regularly conducts the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and has directed the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the London Mozart Players and the orchestra of Scottish Opera.
He joined the music staff at Glyndebourne for the 2018 season and has worked as a guest chorus master for the BBC Singers and the Edinburgh Festival Chorus. He has performed at the BBC Proms as well as the Edinburgh International Festival.
Also in attendance will be John Richardson, former Bishop of Bedford and now honorary assistant bishop in the Diocese of Carlisle and Newcastle.
Organiser Allison Roberts said: “We dared to bring opera to Bewcastle and everyone voted it a success. Well, now we are at it again, with another fantastic line-up.
“The show starts at 5pm, and depending on the number of encores it will end around 6.15pm.
“Then it’ll be bubbles time with Bishop John and his wife Felicity-Anne – with a chance to chat to Chris and Michael too.”
