Barrow is hosting a mass of music events, featuring an eclectic mix of live acts and workshops for all ages filling venues and spaces across the town.
#BarrowMusic has been developed by South Lakes Rock School, Barrow Underground Music Society, The Forum, Barrow Borough Council, Barra Culture and Barrow BID.
The programme launches on September 30 with a primary school singing event at The Forum, culminating in a massed-choir performance of this year’s #BarrowMusic anthem – a classic Oasis song, with a live band backing from South Lakes Rock School.
There will also be an evening with Alan McGee, best known for being the man who discovered and signed Oasis.
On October 1, the Forum has programmed a huge educational music conference for young people. The Recreational Education will provide a programme of lectures and talks, working with Cumbria Music Hub, South Lakes Rock School, BBC Radio Cumbria and BBC Music Introduces in Cumbria.
The event will be completely tailored to the needs of the 15 to 16-year-olds and will enable them to find out about opportunities, widen their networks and chat with representatives from the BIMM Institute Manchester.
The same night the Forum will be hosting Scouting for Girls, which is already completely sold out.
Across the whole weekend, Barrow town centre streets plus pop-up and established venues including BUMS, The Derby and Aspire will be showcasing local and out-of-town artists as part of #BarrowMusic.
Barrow BID will be promoting local buskers and a piano trail to support the local night time economy.
