Muncaster Castle

A major Cumbrian tourist attraction has launched an app to help guide visitors around.

Muncaster Castle has created the app for its gardens, hawk and owl centre and the castle itself.

The app, available for Android and iOS devices, uses GPS and a navigable map so that visitors can track their location, narrated audio clips and videos. It also includes augmented reality experiences.

The audio tour of the castle is narrated by the family members of this unique ancestral home, features all of the state rooms on the ground and first floors and includes memorable stories.

It has been developed as part of the attraction’s COVID-19 recovery plan.

Peter Frost-Pennington, of Muncaster Castle, said: “It has been such a joy to welcome visitors back to Muncaster this summer and our aim now is to keep them ‘appy by offering better interpretation and visitor interaction by the use of our new Muncaster App.”

Jessica Wright, of Peel Interactive, which developed the app, said “We have worked in many amazing places helping them enhance their offer to visitors and there is no attraction more fascinating and extraordinary than Muncaster.

“It has been a pleasure to use our expertise to assist the Pennington family in enlivening Muncaster even more for their many guests.”
