A man is in a critical condition after he was stabbed in Alston.

Two people have been arrested following the incident on Saturday.

Cumbria police were called shortly after 8.20pm to a report that a man had been stabbed in the abdomen outside the Victoria Inn in Alston.

The victim, a man in his 30s from Alston, was taken to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. He remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

Cumbria Police arrested two men following the incident – a 20-year-old man and a 38-year-old man, both from Alston.

The 38-year-old man has been released under investigation whilst officers continue with their enquiries.

The 20-year-old man has been charged with the offence and will be attending court this morning.

Detectives are urging anyone who witnessed what took place, or who has any other information which may assist, to contact DC 2085 Atkinson or DS 1692 Brumpton.
