A Cumbrian butchers has been named the best in the UK at prestigious industry awards ceremony.

Dales Traditional Butchers in Kirkby Lonsdale took home the award for Britain’s Best Butcher Shop at the Meat Management Industry Awards 2021, presented by Kevin Keegan.

The awards celebrate the creativity, innovation and excellence of the UK’s meat industry.

Britain’s Best Butcher’s Shop title is presented to a business that has made a real impact on their trade.

Winners of the 20 categories were determined through reader votes and product entries, along with a select judging panel for product evaluation

Mark Duckworth, who owns Dales Traditional Butchers, said: “I am and we are all absolutely over the moon.

“It is such an amazing achievement especially when there are so many amazing butchers around the country and especially Cumbria itself.

“We were nominated by somebody and then judged anonymously then shortlisted down to three. I was then interviewed by Keith Fisher from the Institute of meat .

“He was really surprised of what I had achieved over the last 22 years of being here the amount of specialised products we produce, plus our website and social media, especially as we work from small premises.

“I am the owner of the buisness originally from Blackburn but instantly fell in love with this little market town.

“The win will bring a massive boost for our business, especially for all our staff that have worked really hard to provide the products and customer service that we do.”
