A woman from Kendal is taking on the momentous challenge of walking over 2,000 miles this year to raise money for four charities.
Miriam Baird set herself the challenge of walking 2,000 miles last year, but missed her target by just 25.5 miles.
She decided to take up the challenge again this year and will be walking an incredible 2025.5 miles, and has chosen to raise money for four charities that are close to her heart – Cruse Bereavement Care Cumbria, South Lakes Dementia Community, Sight Advice South Lakes and the PBC Foundation.
Ever since Miriam was a young girl she has done lots of sponsored walks, supporting a variety of charities over the years.
Her current challenge is her biggest sponsored walk to date. She’s been aiming to walk 5.5 miles a day often accompanied by her dogs, and has covered over 1,453 miles so far.
Her walks have taken her round her local community, further into the Lake District and even into Lancashire.
Miriam is that she lives with the rare autoimmune liver disease Primary Biliary Cholangitis, so taking on this challenge is no easy feat and means walking through the fatigue each day but Miriam is determined to exceed her target.
