A Carlisle-based aesthetics clinic is fundraising for a Cumbrian charity that helps victims of domestic violence.
Throughout October, VL Aesthetics is raising money to support the Freedom Project – a charity that offers free, long-term, community-based support for those experiencing, or recovering from, the effects of domestic abuse.
As part of the Dermalux Freedom Campaign, the award-winning aesthetics clinic is inviting people to buy a ticket for £5 to be in with the chance of winning a top of the range Dermalux Flex machine that is worth £1,900.
By spending £5, people are not only in with a chance to win an incredible prize, but they can also support a vital local charity that has helped more than 10,000 people since it began 22 years ago.
The Freedom Project helps survivors to leave abusive relationships and rebuild their lives, perpetrators to change their behaviour, and children and young people to recover from the trauma of living with domestic and sexual abuse.
Vanessa Brown, managing director of VL Aesthetics, said: “It’s a charity that appeals to us a lot and they do such great work for people, often those who leave their home in the dead of night and that’s their only refuge.
“They help both men and women in Cumbria and they do genuinely great work. Domestic abuse isn’t spoken about as openly as it should be, but so many people are subjected to it.”
This isn’t the first time that the clinic has supported the Freedom Project, and it certainly won’t be the last.
In previous years, VL Aesthetics has invited people to donate their unwanted beauty gifts after Christmas, which were then donated to the charity to distribute to the people it helps.
Vanessa said: “They did such fantastic work throughout lockdown, a time when people literally felt like they couldn’t leave their home and get to safety.
“Now we’re out of lockdown, I want to do something to give back.
“We didn’t do our regifting beauty campaign this year because of lockdown but we plan to resume that early next year after Christmas.
“Until then, we want to help raise some funds for the charity. The Dermalux giveaway is the perfect opportunity because it’s such a fantastic prize, worth £1,900.”
The Dermalux Flex can be used at home to treat various skin conditions. It has a similar effect to the popular Dermalux TriwaveMD machines that VL uses in its newly opened Light Lounge (which is said to feel like you’ve been transported to the poolside in Dubai whilst enjoying your treatment), but as the Flex is not as powerful as the TriWaveMD, it is safe for home use.
Louise Taylor, director of Aesthetic Technology which manufactures Dermalux products, kindly donated the Dermalux Flex to VL Aesthetics.
Vicky Pike, project manager at The Freedom Project, said: ‘We would like to thank VL Aesthetics for the huge support they have given to our organisation and especially our service users over the last couple of years.
“We support over 500 individuals a year in Cumbria that are suffering or that have suffered from domestic and sexual abuse and fundraising is the only way we can continue to offer this.
“£50 enables us to run our helpline for 10 days, £100 provides 4 sessions of 1-1 counselling for victims, £200 provides 5 sessions of 1-1 counselling for children and £400 provides 5 days of group work to women and children.
“The money raised off VL Aesthetics will go a long way in helping support families in Cumbria that desperately need it.”
