Cafe Scientifique Brampton is a place where anyone can come to explore the latest ideas in science and technology.
Meetings take place at Brampton Community Centre and via Zoom on the last Thursday of the month, except December.
The next Café Sci takes place this Thursday, September 30, with Professor Sarah Bridle presenting via Zoom.
Her talk is Change your diet: the easiest way to help reduce your climate impact.
Prof Bridle has been studying dark matter and dark energy for the last 20 years, but when her children started school, she started to think about our own planet in the next 20 years and beyond.
She wanted to know how much each of her food choices was contributing, and why.
Prof Bridle is a transdisciplinary researcher driven by the need to tackle climate change, focusing on a quantitative approach to helping transform food systems to steward change to new kinds of futures.
Prof Bridle’s current research focuses on synthesising, exploring and effectively communicating environmental and nutrition impacts of different dietary options, with the aim of driving changes in food production methods and portfolios to be healthy for people and planet.
Sarah founded the Take a Bite out of Climate Change project, including leading a stand at the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition 2019.
She has unique expertise in managing large scale data, bringing a background including a degree in natural sciences, a PhD in astrophysics (University of Cambridge, 2000); and statistical cosmology research in France, Cambridge, London (Lecturer/Reader 2004-2012) and Manchester (Professor from 2013).
