One flood warning and two alerts are in force in Cumbria as heavy rain continues to batter the county.
A flood warning – the second most severe warning issued by the Environment Agency – is in force at Keswick Campsite.
It states: “The level of Derwentwater remains high following several days of rain. Further heavy rain is forecast on Tuesday which will cause the water level to rise again. Areas most at risk of flooding include low-lying land bordering the shores of Derwentwater and the frontage of the Keswick Camping and Caravan Club Site.
“Avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses, do not attempt to walk or drive through floodwater. This flood warning is expected to remain in place for several days.”
Flood alerts – the lowest level of warning issued by the Environment Agency – are in force for Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwentwater and Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster.
The Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster alert states: “Water levels are high on Windermere, Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster and other watercourses, from Grasmere to Grange-over-Sands including low-lying areas around Ambleside, Skelwith Bridge, Windermere, Hawkshead, Newby Bridge, Backbarrow, Cark and Cartmel due to several days of heavy rain.
“Rain is expected throughout daylight hours on Tuesday. Avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through floodwater.”
The alert for Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwentwater says: “River levels remain high on the Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck, Derwentwater and surrounding watercourses. Flooding is likely to affect locations near the Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwentwater.
“This flood alert is likely to remain in place for several days, with further heavy rain forecast for Tuesday. Avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through floodwater.”
