A Halloween-themed tour of Barrow’s historic Town Hall is set to return for the first time in 15 years.

The Town Hall, in Duke Street, will be lit up with Halloween-themed animations for the festive weekend while those over 18 will also be able to take part in a spooky tour of the Grade II-listed building.

All proceeds raised from the tours will go to the University Hospital of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust’s oncology unit.

Councillor Ann Thomson, the leader of Barrow Borough Council, said anyone embarking on the event would gain a fascinating insight into the history of the Gothic-Revival-style building while enjoying a spine-tingling, fun experience with a cast of actors, special effects makeup, LED candles, torchlight lighting and sounds.

“After the success of our Heritage Open Days, this is another brilliant opportunity to visit Barrow’s beautiful Town Hall. And as it’s Halloween we are more than happy to add a bit of fun with a ghoulish twist to the evening,” she said.

“It will certainly be a night to remember for those taking part – the guided tour is guaranteed to be filled with spooky surprises.”

The tours, which takes place on Saturday, October 30 and Sunday, October 31 have been organised by The Forum and The Spooky Tours Team from events company Something Leisure.

One of the event’s organisers, Dave Cooksey, said more than 35 community volunteers were involved in the event.

“We first did a Halloween tour of the Town Hall 15 years ago so we are very pleased that it’s making a return,” he said. “The building is an amazing location for it and our visitors will be in for a treat, that’s for sure.

“Before the event starts we will be taking a moment’s silence for a very close friend and former cast member of Spooky Tour events, Paul Smith, who died last year.

“Paul was and always will be a big part of the success of Spooky Tours so we have chosen to raise money in his name for the University Hospital of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust’s oncology unit.”

Tickets for the Halloween Town Hall Tours cost £10 and the first tour will start at 7pm. For more information and to book tickets, call the Forum on 01229 820000
