A driver stabbed a woman before attempting to take a child in West Cumbria.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses as part of an ongoing investigation into an incident on October 9 at around 2.30pm in the Woodend area in Egremont.
During the incident, a red Kia Rio was in collision with two cyclists, a woman in her 40s and a child of secondary school age.
The driver of the Kia, a man in his 20s, exited his vehicle and assaulted the woman before attempting to take the child, assaulting him in the process. The man was unknown to the woman and child.
As a result of the incident, the woman sustained stab wounds to her arm and torso, described as not life-threatening. She was taken to Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle before being discharged.
The child suffered minor physical injuries. He was taken to hospital as a precaution and discharged.
The man then left the area in his vehicle before being involved in a single-vehicle crash at 2.44pm on St Bees Road. He was found dead in woodland a short time later. The circumstances of his death are not being treated as suspicious.
