Barrow dropped two points against League Two’s bottom side Scunthorpe United as they drew 1-1 at the Dunes Hotel Stadium.
The visitors had gone ahead on 41 minutes towards the end of a scrappy wind affected first half. Defender George Taft was left unmarked when he headed home a corner. Yet Scunthorpe would be disappointed they didn’t go in with a 2-0 lead.
As early as the third minute they were awarded a penalty but Ryan Loft put the spot-kick wide of the goal. Barrow completely dominated the second half with 80 per cent possession and they had 20 attempts at goal.
They hit the woodwork twice and also missed a penalty. Olly Banks saw his effort from the spot blocked by the legs of Rory Watson, who throughout the second half made a series of fine saves.
The equaliser finally came on 80 minutes when Robbie Gotts capped a fine performance with a controlled finish from just inside the area.
Barrow manager Mark Cooper said: “It was definitely two points dropped against a side fighting for their lives.
“In those circumstances, you can’t give teams a leg up which is what we did by conceding a sloppy goal.
“We changed one or two things in the second half and that’s how I want my team to play. It was so much better and we deserved our goal, although they made it hard for us getting men behind the ball and fighting for everything.”
