After many hard months of campaigning and fundraising, a new speed indication device has been installed in the Eden village of Tirril.

The device indicates the speed of the approaching traffic, the device is powered by solar power, therefore, doesn’t need to be recharged.

The Parish Council was delighted to obtain grants from Cumberland Building Society, Cumbria County Council Community Fund, Eden District Council Community Fund and Cumbria Community Foundation Holehird Fund. This together with the money raised at the plant stall in April and generous donations from villagers has made this purchase possible.

In conjunction with Cumbria Constabulary and Pandora Technologies, the device was installed on Friday.

Present for the turning on was Judith Morris, chairman of Sockbridge and Tirril Parish Council Haydn Morris, Carol Ratledge, Brenda Clarke, police support volunteer Dave Howson and PC Norman Black, collision reduction officer.

Collision reduction officer Norman Black said: “This has been a community-led achievement with the full support of the Parish Council, the device will hopefully educate drivers to drive to the speed limit thus making the area safer for all.

“The area does already have an active Community Speed Watch Group and this will enhance the ongoing excellent work they do.

“The Constabulary would like to thank Judith and all those involved in their attempts to make the roads safer for the community.”
