Almost 140 speeding tickets have been handed out in a West Cumbrian village to drivers using it as a rat run.
Arlecdon villagers are concerned that the speeding drivers on the A5086 will result in serious injury and are demanding something should be done.
Copeland MP Trudy Harrision has called for action and written to Cumbria County Council to urge it to carry out a review of the road.
Mrs Harrison said: “I have been contacted by a number of constituents affected by the current arrangements of the A5086 at Arlecdon.
“I have also liaised extensively with Councillor Arthur Lamb who has been informative and well-versed on the issues at hand.
“It is clear to me that the current situation is not sustainable and presents a risk to road users and residents. Only recently, a car overturned in this peaceful village.
“I have also been informed that following eight deployments of the road safety camera van, Cumbria Constabulary has issued 139 speeding notices to drivers.
“While I commend and support their efforts to deter speeding, I believe these figures speak for themselves.
“Something must be done and I have written to Cumbria County Council to request a full review of the current arrangements and to ensure that the residents are at the heart of the consultations.”
