West Cumbrian pigeon fanciers can push ahead with arrangements for their annual series of shows.

Workington Victoria announced their dates last week and Flimby HS have just opened their series.

There had been a suggestion that shows would be hit by certain measures being taken over the latest round of avian flu cases.

Temporary control zones and restricted areas have been established and there has been a ban on bird gatherings, but those do not apply to racing/show pigeons.

The Flimby HS show last night was for old cocks and had 81 entries judged by Mark and Luke Pearson who gave tickets to: 1, 3, Varty, son and grandson; 2, Williams and Hadfield; 4, Nelson and Crellin; 5, A. Bromley and co; 6, Tinnion and Aitken; 7, Berwick and co; 8, R. Hodgson.

The show was sponsored by Cyril Ostle and John McNichol.

Old hens follow next Wednesday (November 17), and then it’s young cocks on Nov 24 and young hens on December 1.

Workington Victoria start on Friday, November 19 with old cocks and follow-on with old hens (Nov 26); young cocks (Dec 3); young hens (Dec 10) and Ticket winners (Dec 17).
