A Carlisle man is facing prison after he admitted robbing a delivery driver of pizza, cigarettes and vodka in the early hours of the morning.
Detectives launched an investigation after a 26-year-old man was threatened at Dale End Road just after 2am on July 28. He was reported to have suffered minor injuries during an incident in which his delivery was taken.
Billy Moorhead, 35, faced one charge at the city’s crown court this morning.
Appearing over a video link from prison during a short hearing, Moorhead admitted robbing a man of a 12-inch pizza, two bottles of Smirnoff vodka, cigarettes and two bottles of Coke.
Moorhead’s barrister, David Callan, said the defendant was not putting forward a formal basis for his plea to the offence.
Judge Nicholas Barker adjourned the hearing and asked for the preparation of a probation service pre-sentence report.
Moorhead, of Hawick Street, Carlisle, will be punished on a date to be fixed and remain in custody until his sentencing hearing.
Judge Barker told him: “You must understand robbery, even of such items as cigarettes, pizza and the like, is still a serious offence, and is ordinarily met with immediate custodial sentences. That is simply to put you on notice.” A decision on the precise level of sentence, said the judge, would made in due course although Moorhead was told he will receive a discount having entered a guilty plea.
*Two other men who deny a charge of robbery in connection with the same incident are due to stand trial at the crown court early next year.
