Local marathon runners raise over £10,000 for Lake District Calvert Trust

Local marathon runners have raised over £10,000 for the Lake District Calvert Trust.

The cancellation of local and national mass participation events in 2020 had a massive impact on local charity, the Lake District Calvert Trust (LDCT). However, the trust was delighted to see that its committed fundraising runners continued to train hard throughout the pandemic and were able to complete their respective running events in 2021.

Five dedicated runners completed the London Marathon in very respectable times with amazing crowds cheering them every step of the way.

Amy Wilkin from Lancashire said: “It was an amazing day. The support along the route was unbelievable and it was a very humbling and emotional experience and one I’ll never forget. I feel very lucky to have secured a place running the 2021 London Marathon for the Trust.”

Sandra Allan from Penrith did a virtual London Marathon on the same day, and she said: “It was a very wet day. I managed one lap of Derwentwater, but it was so wet and muddy round there that I did the rest of the marathon on the Keswick Threlkeld Railway Path. It was a challenging day but also enjoyable and the fact that I was running for your organisation kept me going.”

Eleven Calvert Trust supporters including runners from local business, Peter Tyson Audio/visual, took on the Great North Run and had a fantastic day. Another local man Graeme Corrighan said: “This was my 19th consecutive Great North Run, all a bit different this year with the change of route, turning around halfway to return back to Newcastle. I was more pleased that the event took place as I know how hard the charities have been hit during the pandemic.

“This year I wanted to raise money for a charity close to my hometown of Keswick! I have constantly been aware of the benefits that The Calvert Trust give to so many. It was a total pleasure to run and raise over £600.”

Fundraising Officer, Yvonne Booth said: “We are extremely grateful to all our runners and supporters. After a difficult year, collectively they have raised over £10,000 for Lake District Calvert Trust, enabling more people with disabilities to experience life-enriching outdoor adventures.”
