FA Cup

Barrow will travel to Ipswich Town in the second round of the FA Cup on Saturday, December 4.

Ipswich had to come from behind at Boundary Park to beat Oldham Athletic 2-1 in last night’s replay.

Goals from Conor Chaplin and Idris El Mizouni helped Paul Cook’s men recover from conceding the first goal to set up with the home tie against the Bluebirds.

When they meet next month it will be the first time the two clubs have met in any competitive action.

Barrow, however, are out of the Lancashire Senior Cup after losing a penalty shootout to Burnley Under-23’s. The Clarets will now play Bolton in the quarter-finals.

It was the last of the first-round ties to be played and after Burnley had missed a penalty in normal time it went to spot-kicks after finishing 0-0.

With Barrow going first, the first three penalties for each side were successful. Offrande Zanzala, James Jones and Robbie Gotts scored for the visitors with Owen Dodgson, Finlay Armstrong and Michael Mellon, who had failed from the penalty spot during the game, scoring for Burnley.

Then Josh Galloway missed for Barrow and Jake Rooney followed up to give Burnley a 4-3 lead. Home keeper Sam Waller then saved Festus Arthur’s spot-kick to ensure the win with no need for Burnley to take their fifth penalty.
