A picturesque camping and caravan park overlooking Ullswater has been named the AA Holiday Centre of the Year.
Park Foot Holiday Park, near Pooley Bridge, was revealed as the winner of the award at the AA Camping and Caravan Awards 2021 on November 10.
The 40-acre park, which celebrated its 70th anniversary this year, was praised for its stunning location, fantastic amenities and on-site activities including watersports and pony trekking.
It consists of 140 privately owned holiday homes and 300 pitches for tents, campervans and touring caravans. It also has 17 self-catering lodges and houses, a restaurant, bar, takeaway and a large shop.
Jim Allen first welcomed campers to the site and it is now run by his daughter Fiona and her sister Barbara Allen, alongside her children Coral and JJ Mowbray and Fiona’s daughters Emma Bell and Joanne Hughes. Fiona’s husband Malcolm and Joanne’s husband Gavin are also involved.
Fiona said: “It’s a great honour to be given such a prestigious national award.
“We’re very lucky to have a wonderful location with easy access to so many beautiful places, but we also put a lot of work into making the park an enjoyable and comfortable place to stay with lots of attractions for visitors. We’d like to thank all our loyal guests for making Park Foot such a success over the years.”
All Caravan and Camping Award winners are featured in the 54th edition of the AA Caravan and Camping Guide 2022. Each site included in the guide has been visited by one of the AA’s experienced campsite inspectors, grading sites from one to five pennants, based on their facilities and hospitality.
