Barrow manager Mark Cooper is mapping out his January transfer window targets with an experienced striker top of the list.
Another game without scoring, despite playing well, has seen the Bluebirds nosedive into relegation territory with only four teams below them and four points clear of the drop zone.
Cooper said: “We have work to do in January to find someone to score goals for us. We need more desire in the opposition box to get on the end of things and find the net.
“For the most part at Sutton on Saturday we played from box to box exactly as I want us to play. I think we gave our travelling fans plenty to feel pleased about in that respect.
“But it’s what’s happening in the two boxes which is dragging us down. We created a lot of good chances and couldn’t take them. Somehow we have to get that ball in the net and show as much desire as the opposition are in keeping things out of their goal.
“We also gave away another silly goal and that’s a sickener too. I’m sure if Patrick Brough had been playing because he’s a left-sided player he would have prevented that goal.”
From being on the edge of the automatic promotion places early season, Barrow have tumbled down the league in worrying fashion.
Rivals at the bottom Scunthorpe, Oldham and Carlisle have all changed managers in the last few weeks and now the fourth club below them, Stevenage have also made a new appointment – Paul Tisdale taking charge from today.
Barrow certainly aren’t going down that road and Cooper firmly believes that finding the right forward in January can turn their season around.
In the meantime, he and his players take a break from league football on Saturday when they travel to Ipswich in the second round of the FA Cup.
