Four flood alerts are in force in Cumbria as the county recovers from Storm Arwen.
The Environment Agency has issued flood alerts – which means be prepared – for the following areas:
Rivers Esk and Irthing
River levels are forecast to rise on the Rivers Esk and Irthing due to heavy rainfall. River levels will be at their highest between 2.30am and 10am today. Areas most at risk include Rivers Esk and Irthing and other watercourses, including low-lying areas around Longtown and Brampton.
The forecast is dry from today and river levels are forecast to begin falling. The Environment Agency will continue to monitor levels closely. Avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through floodwater.
Lower River Eden
River levels are forecast to rise on the Lower River Eden due to heavy rainfall. River levels will be at their highest between 4am and 2pm today. Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the Lower River Eden, with low-lying land expected to be most affected, particularly around River Eden and its tributaries from its confluence with the River Irthing through Crosby-on-Eden and Carlisle to the Solway Firth at Rockcliffe.
The forecast is dry from today and river levels are forecast to begin falling. The Environment Agency will continue to monitor levels closely. Avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through floodwater.
Upper River Eden
River levels are forecast to rise on the Upper River Eden due to heavy rainfall. River levels were forecast to be at their highest between 2am and 8am this morning. Areas most at risk include River Eden and other watercourses, from Kirkby Stephen to Temple Sowerby including low-lying areas around Brough, Warcop, Great Ormside and Appleby.
The forecast is dry from today and river levels are forecast to drop. The Environment Agency will continue to monitor levels closely. Avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through floodwater.
